Hi everyone! Thank you for checking out my new blog! I am excited to share more detailed information about myself and my home. Do you find choosing proper lighting for your kitchen difficult? If you have been following me on my Instagram page for a while, you know that we changed our pendant lights in our kitchen this past year, and it completely transformed our space. Picking out the right light fixture can be overwhelming to say the least.
When we first moved into our home, I found myself making rush decisions to get the job done. That resulted in buying things that I didn’t love, which ended up costing more money in the long run. I found these at Home Depot and bought them on a whim. I do like them, but I never felt that they were right for our space. Mainly because they were too small for our open concept kitchen and large island.
It is important to make sure that you purchase pendants that are the right size for your space so that you do not make the same mistake that I did. An odd number of pendants looks best in my opinion. Pendants should be placed approximately 30 inches apart. Ideally, there should be 30-36 inches between the top of the counter to the bottom of the light. There should also be 8-12 inches from the edge of the island to the fixture if possible. I love the when lighting makes a statement, which is why I chose oversized pendants.
Another important consideration when choosing pendant lights is the finish/metal color. Remember, it is ok to mix metals! I love the look of mixed metals and I think it makes a space more visually appealing.
